The short-term benchmark is calculated using the benchmark calculator in Appendix B of the of the Scientific Criteria Document for the Development of the Canadian Water Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Aquatic Life: Manganese or the following equation:
Benchmark = exp(0.878[ln(hardness)] + 4.76) where the benchmark is expressed in dissolved manganese concentration (μg/L), and hardness is measured as CaCO3 equivalents in mg/L.
